Your Hosts – Lynne and Jim
Prior to moving to Ferndale Way we lived on a 60 ha farmlet north of Taupo. However, once the children had left home we decided to move closer to town and purchased our 1 hectare (21/2 acre) site in Ferndale Way. We began to plan our new home with the idea of offering lodge-style B&B and self-catering studio accommodation. Building was completed in 2008.
While on the farm we hosted travellers on the WWOOF scheme for about 10 years, which enabled us to meet people from many countries. In addition to enjoying the company of our international guests we are keen travellers ourselves and have enjoyedbeing home hosted overseas.
Since moving in to Ferndale Way we have been busy developing our grounds. The soil is a lightweight volcanic material which dries out very rapidly and requires a lot of organic material to be added to be productive. However, we decided to embark on a vineyard project to make the most of the land area. We hope it will eventually yield some wine.
Jim has recently retired from property valuation work and Lynne has worked as a medical technologist, language teacher (French, German and ESOL) and examiner and speaks French and some German.
We enjoy meeting travellers, whether international or NZ holidaymakers, and sharing experiences over a welcome drink or a leisurely breakfast. We are knowledgeable about New Zealand and happy to help you plan your trip and make reservations for you.
