Taupo and Region

Taupo lies at the heart of a region known as the Central Plateau, an active volcanic zone with geysers, boiling mud and thermal pools, located in the centre of the North Island of New Zealand.

The lake itself is a giant collapsed volcanic crater or caldera, framed to the south by the three mountains of the Tongariro National Park: Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro, the volcano this world heritage park is named after.

As well as being renowned for its great lake and stunning scenery, Taupo has become the activities capital of the North Island, offering people the chance to practise their favourite activity in a pristine environment.

Taupo also hosts an increasing number of international events.

For information about events see: http://www.eventscapital.co.nz
