New Zealand Ironman 2 March
Taupo comes alive on Saturday with the International Ironman triathlon, qualifying event for the Hawaiian ironman. The starting and end points of the swim are near Lake Taupo's boat harbour. The town welcomes around 900 athletes who often spend a few days to a few weeks training in the Taupo area.

Recent upgrades
Guest room TVs have been replaced with larger flat screen TVs to provide a better quality image. The guest wing has been fitted with air con/heat pump to counter summer afternoon heat and morning cold.

After the the Christmas - New Year rush
Taupo is settling down after the hectic Christmas - New Year period when the population almost doubles in size. Now is time for fun on the lake or in the great outdoors: walking, cycling, fishing, golfing or just sightseeing. There's plenty for all interests. The Tongariro Crossing is still proving popular despite the level one eruption alert, but the walk is now a return one rather than a crossing, walkers having to return the way they came after reaching the craters at the summit.

Weather's warming up
After a late spring frost last week the week the days are now getting warmer. A lovely time of year to visit the Taupo region. Great for activities, nature lovers and relaxation.

Spring revival
We're open again for business. The vines are pruned, the lawns are growing and the gardens are coming to life. Recent international vistors from China, Austria, Australia and French Polynesia have been surprised by our spring weather. There's lots of snow on the mountains and cooler evenings will be the norm for a while yet so make sure to bring some warm clothes.
